Looking at men

Doing this exhibition has taught me that I've got a long long way to go - everybody else's contributions to the catalogue explaining their work was much more thoughtful, in depth, intellectual and considered than mine. Beccause they're real artists. They have ideas. They have CONCEPTS. They have their own aesthetic (as well as, um, talent and skill.)

But even if I don't have much to say right now, a sort of theme is emerging in what I do.

Can you spot the theme?

n

Yes. Girls, girls, girls.

Why is that?

I like men. I like looking at men. But I draw women. Is that because we're more used to looking at women? Or because women are more interesting and attractive to draw? Or just because I don't know any men?

Men, want to model for me?

  2. Aw, thank you Spin. The men are being very quiet. Don't be shy men, you don't have to get naked or anything.

  3. I love them!

Maybe you are pre-programmed to find women more interesting? I don't know.

  4. The no-nudity clause is good. But would I have to dress up as a woman?

  5. thank you, B! Could be. Lots of women painters only ever seemed to paint mothers with children in the past. Maybe I belong in the nineteenth century.

    Tim, yes. Specifically Charlotte Rampling.

V excited because a friend who works at the RA has invited me to life drawing class there. That's in the famous life drawing room where Turner and Constable used to draw. Woohoo!

  7. Thanks Sar, and GSE. I wasn't fishing (but I love the compliments. At the show another artist complimented me on the FISHING WIRE it was hanging from. A bit of a backhanded compliment.)

  9. Aw, thank you Rad. I wish you could. I should say that number two is a copy of one by an artist called Valotton who was a genius
