Sluts

There, that got your interest, didn't it? Ha!

Just wanted to point your attention to this. I like Rosamund Urwin. She writes about the business markets and about girly stuff like fashion in the Standard, with equal fluency.

Nothing more to add, just that I agree with her. I like the girls dressing how they like to make a point. I don't think we should adopt this language though, even to try & reclaim or subvert it, it's just shooting yourself in the foot.

I'd get behind a NoSuchThingAsASlut campaign though.

  1. Am I the only person who thinks that a bunch of ladies having a fun day out in town in their skimpiest outfits doesn't exactly say: "We are fucking furious about rape victims being treated this way and we want things to change."

Way to trivialise the issue, girls.

  2. Tend to agree. But on the other hand, there are demonstrations and marches against sexual violence all the time. This one gets attention, and doubtless there will be pondlife photographers hovering in the hope of a bit of cleavage or thigh. But at least it means that a big placard saying that short skirts don’t excuse rape will make it into the Mail or the Sun. Every now and then you need to play by Satan’s rules.

  3. LC, what Tim said.

Tim, true, I like the march, it's just them perpetuating this language I'm not so sure about.

  4. Is the point being lost as the sisterhood argue among themselves about the appropriateness of the language?

  5. Interesting question, Ian. Isn't talking about it healthy though? And one of the reasons people demonstrate is to raise awareness & provoke a debate?
